What to Look for in a Building Contractor
When a homeowner is ready to build or remodel, they need to hire the best contractor for the job. There are many contractors out there and the level of their work can vary greatly. In order to get the best job done, here are some tips for hiring the best:
Make certain that they are licensed: A licensed contractor is always your best bet. A builder who has taken the time to study up, pass all tests and pay all fees is smart and serious. Becoming licensed shows much about a builder's character and integrity. When a person has their license, all of their work is basically watched over by the licensing board. If they do shoddy stuff or participate in unethical financial practices, these blemishes will appear on their record for years. Having a license means that they want to do good work and are happy to have their records visible to future customers. Homeowners should always check the records of the builders that they plan to employ.

According to the plea agreement, from 2006 through 2008, 59 year old Symmes sold 62 homes to straw buyers recruited by Garret Gililland of Chico and others. The purchase price on each home was inflated by up to $60,000. Symmes would then write a check back to the front companies controlled by Gililland and others, totaling more than $2.5 million dollars. The rebates on the purchase price were not disclosed to the lenders who financed the properties for the straw buyers. Gililland pleaded not guilty.
