Lake County Home & Garden Show offers something for everyone
This weekend's highly anticipated Lake County Home & Garden Show, spearheaded by the Home Builders Association of Northwest Indiana, promises to be an informative and entertaining outing for the whole family.

The event takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Lake County Fairgrounds, and will feature giveaways, seminars, vendors, displays, demonstrations, contests and even the live kangaroo from Kanga Roofs, back by popular demand.

This year's exciting schedule is made up of an array of attractions:

• Super-Couponer Jill Cataldo, who has appeared on multiple media outlets, returns to Indiana to share invaluable tips on how to maximize grocery savings.

• Times columnist and author Phil Potempa will present three different recipes each afternoon, plus local foodies and chefs will take part in live specialty (gluten-free, vegan, nonallergen) cooking demonstrations throughout the weekend.

• Dean's Landscaping and Belgard Pavers will participate in comprehensive seminars designed to help homeowners enhance and reinvent outdoor living areas and add color and texture to existing landscapes.

• Gardens on the Prairie owner Wayne Gruber will present "Gardening Green," which focuses on eco-friendly, sustainable, low-maintenance gardening practices.

• Kids' spring-themed craft projects, sponsored by the Times Media Company and Crossroads YMCA Southlake Branch, will be available both days.  Rusty the RailCat and other special guests will be making appearances.

• Kids and teens will battle for prizes in a Madden 2011 video game tournament. (Participants should visit the website prior to Saturday for rules and registration.)

• There will be drawings for giveaways (including LCD TVs and valuable gift certificates) throughout the two-day event.
