Trumbull Home Depot joins many others in region
Town residents have never had to travel far to find a Home Depot.
The national home improvement chain has branches in nearly every neighboring town, including Bridgeport, Stratford and Fairfield.
But Trumbull economic development director Deborah Cox hopes that having a Home Depot in town will be a boon to the region.
This week, The Home Depot opened at 90 Monroe Turnpike in Trumbull. It's one of only two stores the chain plans to open in the United States this year.
Despite all the other Home Depot stores nearby, Cox is certain Trumbull residents will flock to the Trumbull location. "I think when something is really close by, there's more impulse shopping," she said.
Connecticut has 29 Home Depots. The Trumbull site is the first store the chain has opened in the state since the East Haven location debuted in 2008. The Fairfield and Stratford stores are both about a 20-minute drive from the Trumbull location, and the Bridgeport store is about 10 minutes away.
Home Depot spokeswoman Jen King had no clear answer as to why there might be a cluster of stores within a short distance of each other. However, she said, much research and analysis goes into deciding where new stores should be located.
