Home improvements to security can lower insurance costs
Taking the time to improve the security of doors and windows could help home improvement enthusiasts lower their insurance costs, according to one expert. Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), points out that as "people are very mindful of security in this day and age", investing in the right products when carrying out DIY projects could make all the difference. "The locks you get are important – make sure you've got the industry-approved ones because then you can get a discount on your insurance," he states. Those keen to invest in home improvements may also want to consider Mr Trudgill's advice and purchase a burglar alarm. Such a product, he states, can serve as "an extra deterrent" to opportunists.
