Home Depot to hire distribution workers
Home Depot will open one of its reconfigured distribution centers in Ontario by the end of the year and is looking to hire about 250 people to staff it, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday.
The company will open up its latest of what it calls a Rapid Deployment Center in a 667,000-square-foot facility at 5655 East Ontario Mills Parkway in December, said Kathryn Gallagher, senior manager of public relations for the home improvement retailers' Western Division.
Job applicants are asked to first apply online by going to http://careers.homedepot.com and clicking on "Distribution Center Hourly," Gallagher said. Job hopefuls will be screened by phone and, if they pass muster, invited to one-on-one interviews Sept. 25, she said.
Applicants can also start the process by using career kiosks at Home Depot retail locations.
The company is looking for full- and part-time workers who have some sort of experience in the distribution industry.
The Rapid Deployment Centers are a relatively new distribution concept for Atlanta-based Home Depot. The distribution facilities are designed to get merchandise onto store shelves faster.
The centers began to appear in 2007 and now supply about 80 percent of Home Depot's merchandise.
The Ontario center will be the 18th of 19 across the country Home Depot plans to open, Gallagher said. A center in Redlands opened in October.
Usually each center is staffed by about 325 people, meaning there would be some additional hiring in Ontario after the December opening.
"As things grow and get progressively busier, I would imagine we would get up to 325 there," Gallagher said in an interview.
The Ontario center will service stores in Los Angeles and Orange counties, as well as the Bakersfield area, Gallagher said in an email.
