Garden buildings must be made secure
Home improvement enthusiasts who own garden buildings or are considering purchasing them should ensure that outdoor property is kept secure, one organisation has said. Research by M&S Money found that a typical shed contains possessions worth £988, with the most expensive items being lawnmowers, bikes and DIY tools. However, nearly half of respondents to the survey (49 per cent) admitted that they do not always lock their garden buildings. Andrew Ferguson, head of general insurance at the firm, commented: "We would urge householders to check whether their home insurance policy provides adequate cover for theft from a shed and what security measures they may need to demonstrate to ensure any claims made are valid." To keep outdoor property safe, the company advised that people lock windows in their garden buildings, fit blinds and fix locks to doors.
