Madonna Spends $2M on Her Home Gym
She's possibly one of the fittest women in the world, let alone Hollywood. So it shouldn't come as any surprise that Madonna has big plans for her home gym. So big, in fact, that she needs to add another floor to her Manhattan mansion to accommodate it all, according to the British Mirror. She's planning on spending nearly $2 million on it. Yes, as Robin Leach would say, these are the lifestyles of the rich and famous. But hey, she needs a good gym. "If I have to go out on stage and, you know, jump around in a pair of hot pants I better look good and also when I perform I'm like an athlete and I have to be in good shape," she said in an interview with Contact Music a few months ago. Fair point. That's not to say that the rest of us don't need fitness in our lives just as much. And even though most of us don't have a million dollars lying around doesn't mean we can't have an amazing home gym, too. All it takes is a little creativity. Our fitness expert Joe Dowdell recently told us how to get a great at-home workout with only a few pieces of equipment -- a resistance band, a Swiss ball, a bench and an exercise mat. All in all, you're looking at $100 max. Want some other thrifty home gym ideas? Dumbbells and jump ropes are just a few things you could pick up. In fact, some workouts don't even need equipment. So if great fitness equipment doesn't cost a mint, just what is Madonna putting in hers that costs so much? While most of the money is no doubt going toward the renovation, I'm guessing she's probably got a range of top-of-the-line fitness equipment that would put even the most exclusive commercial gyms to shame. If money was no object, what fitness equipment would you like to have? We recently asked you just that on our Facebook page. Steam rooms and whirlpools were the most popular answer (amen to that!) and perhaps a massage table that comes complete with a masseuse (thanks to reader Joyce for that one). As for actual fitness gadgets, elliptical trainers are pretty popular, as well as Pilates machines and plain, old-fashioned weights. Oh, and several of you would love to have Bob Harper in your home gym. Strictly for training purposes, of course. source: http://www.thatsfit.com/2010/06/25/madonna-spends-2m-on-her-home-gym/ |
