Inside Designers’ Homes Michele Keith, a writer who has been covering home furnishings and design for more than a decade, often found herself examining an interior design project and wondering whether the designer’s own home was as beautiful as the one he or she had created for the client. “I didn’t know,” Ms. Keith said earlier this week. “Do they try something new? Or are designers like the cobbler’s children and have no shoes?” Hardly. In “Designers Here and There: Inside the City and Country Homes of America’s Top Decorators” (the Monacelli Press, $50), Ms. Keith documents the wide array of spaces designers create for themselves, from Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz’s all-white apartment in Manhattan (with “ten variations of cream, fifty whites and five different tones of silver for sparkle”) to Andrew Fisher and Jeffry Weisman’s “Mussolini meets Doris Duke” domicile in Healdsburg, Calif., which boasts a bathtub that fills from a shell-bedecked fixture on the ceiling.
