Home improvement market in recovery, says expert
The home improvement market is in the stages recovery as more people start to understand that quality construction represents value for money, it has been suggested. James Pugh, associate director at DJD Architects, said there is a "recognition of value against cost" on the part of homeowners who are looking for quality of development. He added: "So it might be that someone spends more but actually what they achieve is something a little bit better. It is in terms of what value the design can bring to them." A British Property Federation recently joined a coalition of 22 members to lobby the government for a VAT cut on home improvements. Cut the VAT coalition states that a reduction in VAT from 17.5 per cent to five per cent would allow the government to decrease carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 and create an extra 55,000 new jobs.
