Hampshire Chamber Home & Garden Expo on tap
For anyone planning a spring project, be it a flower garden or a new home addition, the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce's Home & Garden Expo is a great place to start.

Held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Hampshire High School, 1600 Big Timber Road, the event promises more than 40 vendor booths, local entertainment and free senior transportation.

Chamber Executive Director Stacey Ekstrom said the addition of free senior transportation is new this year and should make the event accessible to more people. The senior bus will leave from the municipal lot near the post office on Washington Avenue at 11 a.m. on both days and promises to have seniors back at that location shortly after 1 p.m.

Transportation isn't the only thing that's got people talking this year. Each day, the vendors will provide free seminars on topics that range from Shaklee's presentation on detoxifying your home to Tracy Home Improvement's seminar on chasing "hidden horrors" from your attic with proper ventilation.

Other activities include Hampshire High School Principal Chuck Bumbales' guided tours of District 300's newest high school each day at noon. Bumbales will answer questions as he showcases the school to the community. And there will be giveaways, drawings and an opportunity to purchase lunch items from vendors.

Each afternoon also will feature live entertainment.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, Hampshire Middle School students will be on hand to perform the musical "Alice in Wonderland," followed by orchestral and band performances at 1 p.m. From 2:30 to 4 p.m., keyboardist Daniel Fuhrman from Faithway Baptist Church will play for the crowds. WLBK AM 1360 also will broadcast from the expo on Saturday.

Sunday's lineup includes a martial arts program at noon, followed by more tunes by Fuhrman. WRMN AM 1410's Radio Shopping Network Road Show will broadcast from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the event. The Growing Scene and the Prairie View Farm Market will host seminars on topics covering the top new flowers for the season and discovering the world of herbs.

A complete lineup of events can be found on the chamber's Web site, www.hampshirechamber.org.
