Home and Garden Buyers Still Interested Despite Economy
During hard economic times, buying a new home isn't on the priority list.  But fixing up the one you already live in may be a cheaper way to go.  Believe it or not, there was a line of people waiting to get into The Home and Garden Show Sunday morning.  Exhibiters tell Action 3 News, it's a surprisingly positive sign in a troubled economy.

More exhibiters are at The Home and Garden Expo than ever before.  They're surprised to see this many potential customers during a time when money is tight.  "There's a ray of hope from what I've seen in the last couple days," said Nability Remodel and Construction exhibitor, Steve Nabity.

Many expo goers are ready to buy, but do so carefully.  "Our big project is this year, it's going to take a little bit of money but we have it, we saved it," said customer, Deron Anderson.

"A lot of people are doing home fix-up's maybe instead of moving," said Nabity.

Others are just here to browse.  "Definitely holding back," said Jerry Schaefer.

One couple wants to make their home more energy efficient.  "The tax incentives Obama's just put out for energy efficiency, I think that's really going to help. That certainly got us sparked up," said customer, Lisa Carter.

But even with an attendence level similar to years past.  Some businesses like The Garden Gopler can't help but feel the pinch year round.  He's not afraid to admit his overall sales are down 50%.  Others are hoping the expo keeps their sale numbers a bit warmer during the summer months.  "Coming out of a little bit slower winter period, the future looks better than the present," said Nabity.
