Home and Garden Show full of vendors
The economy may be in the middle of a recession, but you would never guess it looking at the list of vendors for the 2009 Boone Home and Garden Show, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27-28. The booth space for vendors has sold out, more than two weeks before the show. "We had about thirty booths," Home Show Committee member Kenny Gute said. "It hasn't been sold out the last couple of years." In addition to the full lineup of vendors scheduled for the event, the show also features a wide variety of seminars for visitors. "This year we're having more seminars and entertainment than in years past," Gute said. "And we've got a wide array of different businesses out there that are offering different services. Really, we don't have any two like businesses out there." Also included in the event is a pie auction by Habitat for Humanity, with the winner of each homemade pie being given a ceramic pie plate made by Marc Nystrom. Scott Smith, with the Boone County Landfill, will be giving talks about a number of different topics at the show, ranging from recycling to hazardous wastes. Mike Salati will be on hand to inform the public about radon in homes and to answer questions about home permits. Even Mud Hen the Clown will join the festivities Friday evening and Saturday for the kids to enjoy. "There's several different things you can come out and see, and it gives you the opportunity to visit with some of the local vendors that may have more than you expect," Gute said. "People should come out to support our local businesses, see what they do, and talk to them one-on-one." Food will be available at the show through the 4-H, and attendees have the opportunity win "Boone Bucks," redeemable to local businesses within the city. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28. Admission to the event is free, with seminars and entertainment running both days.
