Home Depot project lets kids be builders
Home Depot came to Kristine Damon's first- grade class at Gubser Elementary on Jan. 21 with its Kids Workshop program. This visit was a reward for exceeding the class goal for the school food drive during December. The students' kindness was matched by Home Depot as "Captain Gary" Johnson and "Mr. Mike" Damon brought aprons, safety goggles, tools and birdhouse kits for every student. The noise was deafening as 18 first-graders "tap, tap, tapped" together wooden houses. And finally, one by one, triumphant smiles flashed as each student completed a birdhouse. A fun project, a successful food drive and a generous business donation. It was a memorable day indeed. Home Depot offers similar projects during the Kids Workshop on the first Saturday of every month. The projects are free and it is recommended you sign up, as supplies are limited.
