Home Depot refutes rumors
BULLHEAD CITY - His store is not closing. It's not even laying off employees. “We want people to know that we're going to be here for the community. We're not going anywhere,” said Forrest Frazier, manager of the Bullhead City Home Depot, 660 Highway 95.

Frazier doesn't know how rumors got started that his store was closing, but thinks it may have something to do with the news that Home Depot is laying off 7,000 employees nationally. People may also be confusing Home Depot with Office Depot, which has announced it's closing its Riverview Mall store.

Home Depot, the nation's largest home improvement retailer, announced Monday that it's cutting approximately 2 percent of its workforce.

Under the plan, the Atlanta-based retailer will close its 34 Expo Design Centers, five YardBIRDS stores, two Design Center stores and a bath remodeling business with seven locations. Those stores will close in the next two months.

Its core Home Depot stores won't be affected.

The company also plans to shed 2,000 non-store jobs and freeze the pay of its officers.

The 95,000-square-foot Bullhead City Home Depot opened in July 2003 and employs 101 people.

“We're not laying anybody off,” Frazier said. “I've been here for 20 months. We haven't had any layoffs. We continue to do business as normal.”

He said he hasn't seen business falling off. “Since I've gotten here, it hasn't gone up or down. It's sustaining itself.”

The store has lowered prices and is concentrating on customer service, Frazier said.

They offer a price-match guarantee, “so if you find a product at another place in town at a lower price, we'll match it and beat it by 10 percent,” he said.

They've also rolled back prices on various items. “Some are up to 50 percent lower,” Frazier said.

“On a daily basis, we're working with homebuilders and contractors - whether it be the big names or the small names - to get them the best products at the best prices,” he said.

“Service is what sets us apart from everybody else and that's one of the things that has been a focus point of mine since I got here,” Frazier said.

Every customer gets a letter from Frazier in their bag, reassuring them that Home Depot is here to stay.
