About $60,000 in electronics stolen from home
An elderly Sarnia couple returned home to find an estimated $60,000 in electronics equipment, jewelry, cash and drugs stolen from their home in a daring daytime break-in. Police said neighbours reported seeing a large white van in the driveway of the Conestoga Drive home Wednesday morning. The break-in occurred sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. while the couple was away from home. "This is a unique break-in in terms of the value of the items stolen and the fact they also went for the drugs," said Const. Bill Baines. "Daytime break-ins don't occur every day, but they do happen and we're happy that neighbours were able to provide us with some information, but we urge people who see something suspicious to up the phone and give us a call. A lot of times, people don't call because they don't want to bother police because they're unsure. But, maybe in this case, we could have apprehended these suspects right away." The suspects forced open a door leading from the garage to the home. Taken from the home were a Sony 42-inch television, surround-sound system, Blue Ray DVD, Star Choice receiver, JVC projection television, two desktop computers, one laptop, jewelry, 80 percocet tablets and 25 methadone tablets. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sarnia police break and enter squad or Crime Stoppers.
