Home Depot Center ticket tax likely to be removed
The Carson City Council is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. today to remove a measure from the March ballot that would impose a 5 percent tax on tickets at the Home Depot Center.

The council also is expected to approve an amendment to a development agreement with the stadium that would grant the city a 2 percent ticket surcharge for the next seven years.

In exchange, the city would forgo any effort to impose an additional ticket tax at the stadium during that period.

The council placed the tax on the ballot last week, after months of debate over a new source of city revenues. The Anshutz Entertainment Group, which owns the stadium, had volunteered to pay a 2 percent surcharge in lieu of placing a tax on the ballot.

If approved at 2 percent, the tax would provide the city $280,000 per year.

The council also placed a 2 percent utility-users' tax on the ballot, which the city estimates would provide about $9 million per year.
