Endeavour Docks at Space Station on Home-Improvement Mission
NASA’s space shuttle Endeavour docked with the International Space Station today just after 5 p.m. New York time on a home-improvement mission that will deliver new bedrooms, a gym and device to recycle liquids. Before docking, the shuttle completed a complete flip to allow the station’s astronauts to photograph the underside of the orbiter to check for any damage during liftoff. Endeavour launched at 7:55 p.m. local time two days ago from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Its cargo will double the station’s living capacity to six and includes a second toilet and an extra refrigerator for the $100 billion outpost, currently manned by one Russian and two U.S. astronauts. The seven-member crew will spend 15 days at the station and make several spacewalks for repairs to help lubricate and service gears that rotate the station’s solar panels.
