Drop in for some home improvement advice
The team will be renting a shop on Cole Street in Scunthorpe from Monday 10 to Saturday 15 November and offering free advice to anyone who wants to drop in. And advice isn't the only thing on offer - as everyday there will be the chance to win energy efficiency prizes. And everyone who visits will have the chance to win £250 towards your next energy bill in a special draw which will take place on Saturday 15 November. In addition to this, members of the public who drop in will also receive a free low energy light bulb. North Lincolnshire Council offers a wide range of services to help the public with home improvements. Council officers will be on hand between 10am and 4pm each day throughout the week to give people information on these services and people can improve their homes with energy efficiency improvements and renewable options. For example, the Handyman service provides an extensive range of services from improving access to properties, fitting minor adaptations for the disabled, undertaking minor repairs to your property, improving home security and also offers a gardening service. In addition to these services, the council hopes to remind people that there are arrangements to help people manage with payments for home improvements, such as the Houseproud scheme. The Houseproud scheme aims to arrange a low cost advance, in order to help home owners aged 60 and over and households with a disabled person of any age to repair, improve or adapt their homes so they can continue to enjoy living there safely and independently. North Lincolnshire Credit Union will also be on hand too to explain the range of services they offer. Cllr Mick Grant, cabinet member for Housing and Strategic Planning, said: "These drop-in sessions are a great chance for members of the public to find out about making their homes more energy efficient. "Making sure your home is properly insulated can save money on heating bills, which can only be a good thing as everyone is having to tighten their belts at the moment. "The council officers are friendly and helpful, and I would encourage anyone with any questions to drop in. All visitors will get a free energy saving light bulb, and there is even the chance to win a prize!"
