New homes in relaxed, friendly setting attractive to residents of Berkshire Park
Berkshire Park is an upscale subdivision off Mountain Creek Road just minutes from Paris Mountain State Park. The subdivision features large brick homes snuggled closely together on small lots. Although there are 125 lots in the neighborhood, there are only five streets, most ending in cul-de-sacs. The neighborhood is wrapped around nine holes of the Pebble Creek Golf Course, added several years after the original 18-hole course was built. Homes in the subdivision range from $275,000 to $400,000, and many are custom designs. Berkshire Park resident Donna McCuen lived in nearby Pebble Valley when she and her husband began building their new home. "My husband was out of the country on business, and I started working with an architect," McCuen said. "One day I was shopping and I saw the front of a home on the cover of a magazine and I loved it. I showed it to my husband, and he liked it too. I found my house. We designed most of the inside. "My husband wanted to live on a golf course," McCuen said. "We drove through here all the time and we fell in love with the entrance. It's close to the mountains, it's very scenic, the neighborhood is calm, and it's just a mile from Paris Mountain State Park." Currently there are four homes under construction in the subdivision and a couple of vacant lots, although the lots are owned. A handful of "For Sale" signs are sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. Residents say Berkshire Park is a great place for kids to ride their bikes and to make friends. Speed humps keep traffic at a safe speed. And neighborhood parties bring newcomers together with longtime residents. "It's a very friendly area," said resident Anne Gerhiser. "It's very nice to walk out in the neighborhood at night. It's quiet and pretty with a view of Paris Mountain." Anne and her husband Carl were the fourth family to move into the subdivision 11 years ago. "We moved here from Easley because it was closer to where we both worked," Carl said. Anne is a teacher at Paris Elementary School and Carl travels in his job. "I was commuting every day to Paris, and since Carl travels so much it was nice to be closer to the airport," Anne said. "It's near Furman, we like to play golf, and of course it's nice to have Cherrydale shopping so close." Kendall Miller said he moved his family to Berkshire Park 10 years ago. "We looked on the Eastside at places like Thornblade and the houses here were a better value," he said. "There is a good mixture of families, it's right on the golf course and it's quiet. When you come in you can see the mountains, but it's close to town. There are a lot of trees, and I really like trees. You don't have to worry about the kids because it's a very safe neighborhood." http://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/99999999/LIFE07/507170323/ 1084/YOURUPSTATE01 |
