Philippine interior designers show how to go green at home
Student designer Rock Robins said it is about time to educate the public as well as the industry about environment-friendly interior designs. “A total of 84 students are doing this exhibit and it is divided into four areas, which are 'High-rise Haven'; 'Blissful 'Burbs'; 'Sea Sanctuaries'; and 'Peaceful Peaks'. When you go to the exhibit you can see how these different areas can actually be earth friendly,” Robins said in an interview over “Mornings at ANC.” PSID professor Edwin Enriquez said in light of the depleting natural resources it is only apt to advocate recycling when designing the interior of one’s home. “Actually, we are just starting. There's a group actually advocating good friendly design. It's relatively new and probably this exhibit will kick it off and make the public more aware about it,” Enriquez said. Enriquez cited recycling of old furniture, used doors and woods and bottles and the use of lighting that consumes less energy. He said one design uses coconut husks while another one is inspired by mangroves. A bathroom design made by Robins’s group uses quality materials for sustainability, natural lighting and cross ventilation. As for the toilet bowl flash, the group uses rain water. Enriquez said with the designer’s creativity old materials can be reused and turned into something different. “Every space could use earth friendly design. It’s just a matter of planning it efficiently and also choosing the right materials,” Enriquez said. He added that designing environment friendly spaces can be cheaper than standard designs, depending on the materials. Robins said it is easier now to look for materials that are not harmful to the environment because people are now more green-conscious. Seminars and lectures on sustaining an environment-friendly home and lifestyle will also be held. http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/lifestyle/09/29/08/philippine-interior -designers-show-how-go-green-home |
