Low turnout at home improvement show
A shaky economy and weak housing market led to a low turnout at a weekend-long home and garden show in Fort Myers. The shoppers who did show up had one thing in mind and those in the home improvement industry say it’s that very thing that is keeping them in business. The real estate crash has affected many business vendors at the show, but companies that specialize in remodeling say customers looking to make the most of their homes is keeping them busy. Vendors at the event say instead of buying new homes, many homeowners are simply re-vamping common areas like kitchens and bathrooms. "They're wanting to renovate, wanting to kind of update it, make it a bit fresher," said Ricky Dorman, a vendor at the show. "The remodeling client right now has been saving our business," said Carrie Payne with West Coast Custom Cabinetry.
