Con Ed, Home Depot Unveil Green Initiatives
Con Edison is plugging in to the green movement. The utility says its trucks now operate on environmentally-friendly biodiesel fuel, 20 percent of which is derived from soybeans. The company says the move will save almost 400,000 gallons of gas a year. Con Ed says it also plans to introduce more hybrid vehicles into its fleet. And, Home Depot is doing its part for a greener New York. The retailer says all of its stores will now have a recycle centers for Compact Fluorescent Lights. Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the bulbs save money on electric bills -- but up until now some consumers have hesitated purchasing them because of limited recycling programs. The city also accepts the bulbs at special waste drop-off sites.
